Satellite Internet In Canada

If you live in an area not serviced by cable or DSL, which happens a lot in this huge country, then your best option for a high speed internet service is satellite internet. In Canada this service is widely available.

With so many rural and remote areas in many parts of Canada, and so little access to broadband internet in many of these areas, something had to be done to bring high speed internet to these residents. Satellite internet in Canada has become increasingly popular as a means of getting that high speed internet.

At least 30% of Canadian residents live in underserviced regions as far as broadband internet is concerned. And that doesn’t apply only to areas away from cities and other larger communities.

In fact many rural residents who live within a few kilometers of a community that is serviced by DSL or cable are stuck in the frustrating position of being so near and yet so far. When the cable line ends, access to high speed internet ends as well.

This situation is not likely to change anytime soon. Because of how large the country is compared to the number of residents, it’s just not cost effective to install the infrastructure necessary to bring DSL or cable to many regions.

That’s where broadband satellite internet comes in. It’s possible to get a satellite package practically anywhere. So if you live in an area where the only option has been dial-up, you’ll be happy to learn that you’re only a step away from broadband.

And that’s really a necessity in this day and age. Not only are people connected, but in many cases, not being connected is a serious drawback in many ways. You can’t hope to compete in business without high speed internet. Even working from home instead of commuting is not possible if you don’t have a fast internet. Students are at a disadvantage too.

There are few requirements to be able to access satellite internet in Canada.

The main one is that you need to have a clear view of the southern sky because that’s where the satellites are deployed in space.

If there are trees, tall buildings, or mountains interfering with the signal, the speed may be compromised. In severe cases, it may be impossible to even get a signal. But the good news is that this occurs in very few cases.

And even if your house is located in a less than optimal area, the installers may be able to locate the dish in a better location and hook you up at a distance.

You see, that’s the beauty of internet via satellite. The satellite is deployed in space, so its location remains the same. But the location of your dish can be moved if the signal is better in one spot than in another.

A second requirement is that you have electric hookups in your home. The hardware that runs the system within your home is connected to the dish and needs to be plugged in to operate. It uses little power though, so if you run your electrical needs with solar or wind energy or use a generator, you should be okay.

The other requirement is that satellite internet systems must be installed by a trained professional. There is some technical data that must be processed between the installer and the main service center so your satellite dish is pointed correctly and entered into a database.

If you live in a very remote area, you may have to wait some time before you can get the installation completed.

Satellite internet in Canada is a reliable way to have a fast internet service. There are only a few providers for satellite internet, but many smaller local companies are affiliated with these larger providers. You can find out who your local supplier may be by checking online.
