When you compare the various types of broadband internet that are available, you might be surprised to discover that satellite internet access is right up there with the other fast internet service. With the increasing need for a high speed internet service in both urban and rural areas, satellite internet is becoming increasingly popular. You have a lot of choices if you live in an urban area. But if you live in a rural or remote area not serviced by DSL or cable, you have few choices. Either stick with dial-up or go with a satellite service for your internet. And if you are a frequent traveller, and don’t want to give up your broadband internet, a satellite internet service is a good choice. That way you get fast internet while avoiding the drawbacks of using a mobile stick. Once you’ve opted to go with a satellite internet service, you have some decisions to make. When you're deciding on the type of satellite plan to choose, you will have to consider two things - cost and the amount of bandwidth you will use. Like the other types of broadband internet services, satellite internet caps the amount of bandwidth that can be used over a certain period of time. But this cap is fairly small compared to the other types of broadband services. You will likely find that if you download large files such as those associated with longer videos, you will quickly exceed your cap. If this is the case, you may want to opt for a plan with a larger cap. What happens if you do go over the limit allowed in your plan is that your browsing speed becomes significantly lower for a specified period of time. In some areas, it may be possible to bundle home internet plans with satellite TV and radio. This is a good plan for home use. But if you are business user, you may not want or need to bundle these services. However, you may require more bandwidth. As satellite service has expanded, satellite internet access plans designed to accommodate businesses have been developed. Another important consideration especially for business owners is upload speed. This is one area where satellite internet does not compare well to other types of high speed internet. So if you need to upload large amounts of data to a website on a frequent basis, be aware of the limitations of internet via satellite. Satellite internet is indispensible for people who want access to mobile internet. If you have a motor home, a boat or are on the road a lot, you may want to take a look at a mobile internet plan. Internet access is enabled with a portable device. The one drawback is that this type of broadband internet is relatively expensive. There are a lot of reasons why you may want to choose satellite internet access, if you don't have access to DSL or cable. And if you need to stay connected while you're on the road, satellite internet is truly the only realistic choice. |
